Profiles in Conservation: Roy Roper

This month's conservation spotlight shines on Roy Roper of Canon City. Here is Roy's story in his own words: "I was born in a plain wood frame ranch house on an 1892 family homestead near the edge of the St. Charles canyon in Pueblo County. I became interested in soil and water conservation at an early age, and later made it my life career." Roy served in the second world war and later joined the Soil Conservation Service (today's NRCS). He also worked for the Fremont Conservation District for many years, and served on the Fremont County Weed Board where he is a lifetime member. Few people have done as much or more than Roy to advance the work of natural resource conservation in Fremont County, and we recognize his Pathfinding Spirit. Roy celebrated his 100th Birthday on March 20, 2025!
